Class News.
Oct 6
Due
to our not having class on Oct 14 (Thanksgiving) the critique that was
due on Oct 12 has had its due date extended to Oct 13.
I have changed assignment 8, since most people have had experience with voice recognition, but not as much with captioning.
Sept 27
Having a good project proposal is essential to having a good project.
I want to clarify what I said on Wednesday about the possibility of dealying finalizing your proposal until next Wednesday.
- The official due date and time is noon on Monday Sept 30.
- I expect all students to submit (at least a good draft of) their proposal by that time.
- However,
I recognize that some students might not have a good enough proposal at
that time that will provide a sufficiently successful project.
- I
will make comments and a tentative marking on what I receive on Monday
and try to get this back to you as soon as possible Monday afternoon or
evening.
- I hope that all of your draft proposals will be good enough for you to start working on the rest of your project at this time.
- However, it might be important to clarify some parts of the proposal to better lead you to success.
- If
I have to reject any proposals at this time, (which I hope will not
happen) it will be essential for the student to make arrangements to
meet with me to find and focus on a suitable topic as soon as possible
on Tuesday, so that the start of their project is not delayed.
- It
is essential that your proposal is finalized by Wednesday, if not
sooner. After all, the week should be focused on analysis rather than
dealing with the proposal. Any problems with the proposal will mean
that extra time will be needed to keep up with your plan.
- You
should take any comments on your draft proposal into consideration and
make any necessary improvements in your proposal and get a final
version of the proposal back to me no later than 11pm Wednesday.
- If
your draft proposal is accepted on Monday you do not have to make any
changes if you are satisfied with the tentative mark it is given.
- Marks from the original draft will not change if improvements are not made.
- I
will mark the final version on Thursday (hopefully in the morning) and
will record this mark as your proposal mark in the course.
- I hope that this will ensure that everyone has a good project proposal to go forward without delays.
Sept. 15
Based
on difficulties that students have experienced with the critique
template, and to make its headings more consistent with the format used
in the NOTES, I have revised the critique template and the discussions relating to the sections of the critique in the page on critiques.
